Free Community Education Classes:

Within My Reach – for singles only. This class is designed to improve the chances for participants to attain relationship success for themselves and their children by: helping those in viable relationships to cultivate, protect, and stabilize their unions, and to marry if desired; helping those in damaging relationships to leave safely; and/or; helping those desiring a romantic relationship to choose future partners wisely. The curriculum is designed to help anyone, regardless of their goals or needs in romantic relationships, to develop useful skills in relationships more generally that may benefit them on the job, in the neighborhood, with children, and with family.

Class will meet for five consecutive weeks in Classroom A from 5-7 p.m. Class dates are July 21, 28; and Aug. 4, 11 and 18. The second session will be held Sept. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Stress Management – Definition of stress, fight/flight response, types of stress, and technology and stress will be discussed. Stress management relief techniques will be practiced in this session. Classes will be held in Classroom A.

Class dates are Sept. 3 and Nov. 12.

Chronic Disease Management – Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, and 6) how to evaluate new treatments. Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.

Class dates are Aug. 19, 26; Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23; Oct. 14, 21, 28; and Nov. 4, 11 and 18.

Child Passenger Safety Check Event – Certified car seat technicians perform free car seat evaluations. Technicians ensure that all children ages 0-16 are properly restrained in the correct restraint system for their age and size. Registration is required.

Support group provides vital links to other caregivers and an opportunity to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and ways to cope. Day or evening.

BETTER BREATHERS

Learning to live with chronic respiratory disease. Learn about tips and techniques to manage the disease.

CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

Separate groups providing support for cancer patients and the families and caregiver.

DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP
First Saturday of Month: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Support group forms a bridge between formal health care and self-management. By gathering people with common concerns, goals and interests, members feel less isolated.

PARKINSON ’S SUPPORT GROUP
Fourth Thursday of Month: 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Support group assists those with Parkinson’s disease, their family, caregivers and care partners in adapting more positively to the physical, emotional and social changes associated with Parkinson’s disease.

GED PREPARATION

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
Every Tuesday: 4 - 6:30 p.m.
