Phelps Regional Homecare joined the Home Health Quality Improvement National Campaign

ROLLA - SPRING 2007 - Phelps Regional Homecare, a service of Phelps County Regional Medical Center, is among more than 3,000 home health agencies nationwide that joined the 2007 Home Health Quality Improvement National Campaign.

The campaign is a 12-month interdisciplinary approach to improving the quality of care provided to home health patients. By interdisciplinary, this means information and educational resources will be shared with home health staff at every level - from administrators and management to social workers, therapists and home health aides - helping to improve the quality of home health care.

The ultimate goal of the campaign is for agencies that have signed on to the campaign to reduce their rate of acute care hospitalization (ACH) by a 5 percent relative improvement. An agency with a 20 percent ACH rate, for instance, would want to decrease that figure to 19 percent by March 2008.

"The employees at Phelps Regional Homecare are committed to providing the highest level of quality home care possible," said Rhonda Teague, director of Phelps Regional Homecare.

In addition, Phelps Regional Homecare is also participating in Quality Partners, which is sponsored by The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). This is a national hospice quality initiative designed to help hospice providers take a 360 degree look at all aspects of their organization, from the bedside to the board room, with the goal of improving quality throughout the organization.

NHPCO and members of its Quality Advisory Council have identified 10 components of quality in hospice care. These 10 components include:
  1. Patient and family centered care
  2. Ethical behavior and consumer rights
  3. Clinical excellence and safety
  4. Inclusion and access
  5. Organizational excellence
  6. Workforce excellence
  7. Standards
  8. Compliance with laws and regulations
  9. Stewardship and accountability
  10. Performance measurement

"These 10 components will help guide our organization in delivering excellent care to the patients and families we serve," said Cindy Scearce, hospice manager for Phelps Regional Homecare.
