PCRMC Comprehensive Breast Center Provides World-Class Care

Did you know Phelps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC) has the only Comprehensive Breast Center within 100 miles of Rolla? Located on the first floor of the Medical Office Building, the Comprehensive Breast Center provides patients every aspect of breast care, such as education, prevention, screenings, rapid diagnosis and state-of-the-art technology.
“The Comprehensive Breast Center is world-class,” says Don James, D.O./SVP Chief Medical Officer at PCRMC. “There is no other healthcare facility in the area that has what PCRMC has available; we provide the patient with full service care—from digital mammography to diagnostic ultrasound to biopsy—all in the same visit.”
The Comprehensive Breast Center allows patients access to advanced therapies, and is the only breast center to offer digital mammography, diagnostic ultrasound, as well as an onsite radiologist; the radiologist is immediately available to interpret screenings and tests. “Other healthcare facilities do not have a radiologist onsite, so they have to send their tests off to have them read,” says James. “At PCRMC, we have the capability to read all of our tests in-house, which minimizes delays; therefore, we are able to reduce the amount of time between a patient’s diagnosis and treatment.”
Not only is the Comprehensive Breast Center’s technology world-class, but so are the employees and staff. Helen Litz, RN, MSN, CS, FNP, has served as the Coordinator for the PCRMC Breast Center for six years. “I really enjoy helping the patients,” says Litz. “I do whatever I can to make the patient feel at ease and comfortable during their visit.” One way Litz eases concerns and fears is through education. “I am available every step of the way for patients and encourage them to call me if they have any questions about breast health,” she says. “Our facility is as modern as any other healthcare facility in the United States, and our staff strives to make it as warm and caring as anywhere you will find.”
