Regional Cancer Snapshot
One-in-two men and one-in-three women will develop cancer during their lifetime. Currently, PCRMC is only able to treat about 40% of all cancer patients in our six-county service radius. Cancer projections are dire: the cancer case volume is expected to increase in south-central Missouri well into the future. PCRMC is preparing now to accommodate the rapidly growing need of cancer services in our region. With the creation of the Delbert Day Cancer Institute (DDCI), PCRMC anticipates being able to serve 520 additional cancer patients per year.
The Delbert Day Cancer Institute at PCRMC
The nationally accredited Delbert Day Cancer Institute at PCRMC will house all cancer care services under one roof for convenience and continuity of care for patients and their families. The DDCI is slated to open by 2016, and the building will be housed on the main campus in Rolla and built off of the north side of the PCRMC Medical Office Building.
According to CEO John Denbo, the DDCI will be a physical manifestation of the spirit of its namesake, Dr. Delbert Day: “Dr. Day embodies the spirit of everything we believe the PCRMC cancer center will encompass: a commitment to academia, including researching treatments for cancer; a commitment to numerous, local civic and community organizations; and a down-to-earth, approachable, compassionate character.”
The DDCI will include designated areas for radiation oncology, medical oncology, laboratory and imaging services, an infusion room, physician offices and areas for a community conference center, retail space and café. All cancer treatment and support services will be centrally located in the DDCI in order to ensure the best possible patient experience and to ease the burden of having to travel multiple locations for treatment.
