Chronic Disease Self Management - Daytime Classes
Location: Chronic Disease Resource Center (refer to inside back cover)
Cost: Free
Time: 10:00am-12:00pm
Dates: Thursdays/7 classes per session

Session 1 - January 10 thru March 14
Session 2 - March 21 thru June 13
Session 3 - June 20 thru August 15

Course: Live well with chronic conditions. This course is for anyone with arthritis, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, COPD, depression, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, lupus, or other chronic conditions. It’s also available to persons caring for someone with a chronic disease. You’ll learn:

  • techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation
  • appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • appropriate use of medications
  • how to communicate effectively with family, friends and health professionals
  • the basics of good nutrition
  • how to evaluate new treatments

Home Care - Caring for Loved Ones in the Home

Course: Home Care is an overview that includes four programs designed to meet the specific needs of patients and caregivers in the home environment. From skilled, unskilled, temporary or terminal care, this class will help you decide what is appropriate for the situation and how to access services. The road to home care can be curvy, let us help you navigate.

Pass It On - Organ Donation
Location: Education Classrooms
Cost: Free
Date/Time: April 9 (12:00-12:45pm)

Course: Do you need a better understanding of the organ and tissue donation process to make a lifesaving decision in your own life? This class is for you. We will discuss the current need for donors, the emotional side of both the donor and the recipient, and dispel any myths about donation. Donation is an individual choice. The decision is yours to make. This class will provide all the information you’ll need to make an informed decision regarding organ and tissue donation.

Arthritis Exercise Class
Location: The Centre
Cost: $10 for an eight-week session (pro-rated if starting mid-session)

Course: The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is a recreational group exercise and education program designed specifically for people with arthritis and related diseases. This eight-week session will teach you very low impact exercises and stretches that target the joints affected by exercise, helping reduce pain and stiffness, maintain or improve mobility, and increase muscle strength. You can join anytime during the eight-week session.

Palliative Care vs. Hospice: Who and When?
Location: Education Classrooms

Course: Individuals are living longer with serious, life-limiting illnesses. These individuals and their families struggle with physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs that typically are not addressed in the course of traditional medical care. However, as a provider of world-class healthcare, PCRMC offers comprehensive services which include Palliative Care. A common misconception is that Palliative Care and Hospice are one and the same, but this is not the case. This seminar will examine the differences between Palliative Care and Hospice while teaching participants when each is appropriate in caring for individuals facing a serious illness.

Safe Sitter
Location: Education Classrooms, PCRMC

Course: For boys and girls ages 11-13. Learn how to handle unexpected situations that might arise in caring for young children. Learn the business aspect of babysitting and receive information on child development. Participants receive hands-on training in infant and child CPR from certified American Heart Association instructors.

Silver Eagles

The PCRMC Silver Eagles Program, a program for healthy aging, is FREE for anyone over age 50 living in Phelps, Dent, Crawford, Pulaski, Maries or Texas counties and surrounding areas. The goal of this program is to help members be informed of the latest health information for vital aging, make new health skills a priority, and improve lifestyle, diet, and attitude for healthy longevity. Some of the benefits of Silver Eagles membership include a monthly newsletter with tips for healthy aging, upcoming event reminders, invitations to free educational events, free quarterly wellness workshops, and free periodic health screenings.
