Chaplaincy Program

The chaplaincy program, which began in 1987, is an important branch of PCRMC Auxiliary & Volunteer Services. Its self-defined purpose is "to assist the members of the Phelps County Regional Medical Center’s staff to better treat the whole patient and to cooperate with the administration of the hospital in providing complete hospital care for the sick of the community." PCRMC chaplains can serve you and your family, at your request, in the following ways:

  • Praying with you and/or your family;
  • Providing support before and after a medical procedure;
  • Offering support when facing a difficult decision;
  • Emotional support in times of stress;
  • Helping to ease feelings of fear;
  • Dealing with grief or death.

The hospital chaplain is an integral member of the healthcare team, who makes daily rounds and is available 24-hours a day to provide pastoral care for patients, family and staff. The chaplain is available to provide objective crisis intervention and spiritual support.

Support For Patient Families
The chaplain is available to the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and all areas of the hospital to help the distressed family, a critically ill or dying patient. Call (573) 458-7935 for the chaplain’s office.

In-House Chapel
A chaplain is on call 24-hours a day to meet your emotional and spiritual needs. To contact a chaplain, call (573) 458-7935. The chapel is located next to the emergency department.

Liaison For Local Clergy
Usually, the hospital chaplain sees a patient before his or her minister is aware of the hospitalization. With the patient’s permission, the chaplain can call the family pastor, priest, rabbi or other religious leader.

Community Contact
Serving as the hospital’s religious community public relations person, the chaplain is able to coordinate services provided to the clergy. The chaplain is prepared to conduct seminars and workshops on topics such as hospital visitation, terminal illness, death and dying and the grieving process.

Grief £ Recovery® Outreach Program
12-week program

Date: Monday, August 29th
Time: 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Location: PCRMC's Pulaski Room

One of the least acknowledged and least addressed concerns in our society is Grief, the normal and natural reaction to loss.
Whether your loss is from:

  • Death of a love one Divorce or end of a relationship
  • Loss of a career Loss of a substance dependency Loss of trust
  • Loss of dreams Loss of security Loss of health

Grief will continue to affect our lives and the lives of those around us adversely when we are forced to accept the many myths about grief:

  • Time heals all wounds
  • Replace the loss
  • Grieve alone
  • Be strong for others
  • Bury your feelings

The Outreach program will guide those who wish to resolve their loss issues and move beyond their grief to a richer quality of life. As a result of participating in this program you life may become more enriched, more alive and more fulfilled than ever before. This 12-week program will be conducted Phil Cox, Certified Grief £ Recovery® Specialist.

The program is affiliated with and endorsed by the Grief Recovery Institute. This format has been developed by Russell P. Friedman, Executive Director, and John W. James, Founder of the Grief Recovery Institute, and authors of The Grief Recovery Handbook – The Action Program for Moving Beyond Death, Divorce and Other Losses
